Chaston Associates Staff

Chaston’s seasoned team of credit professionals is the cornerstone of this more than 25 year old firm. The experience of staff members is considerable. Nearly all our people have worked in lending or credit risk management for 20 years or more. Many of our employees have been with the company for at least 10 years. The reliance upon contract help to meet the demands of our clients is limited. As a result, there is continuity and tenure among our staff. The experience and consistency of the Chaston team is appreciated by our clients. A synopsis of our management team is provided below.

James F. Chaston | President
Jim founded Chaston Associates in 1984. After working eight years as a National Bank Examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Jim identified a need for outsourced loan review services among community and regional banks within New England. Over the course of the past +20 years, Jim has followed the needs of our clients, leading the firm into a number of areas beyond loan review. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the company, Jim maintains a relationship with many customers, and is hands on in all areas, including commercial loan review, compliance, consumer & indirect finance, mortgage loan underwriting and equipment leasing. Jim oversees most of the firm’s policy development projects and management consulting assignments.

Jim Chaston is a co-author of the book The Business of Banking for Bank Directors, and regularly provides counsel / training to executive management and directors, particularly in the areas of credit risk management and consumer compliance. Jim has been certified as a Public Accountant by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and has earned a BS in Business Administration from Bryant College, and an MBA from Northeastern University.

Jack J. D’Ambrosia | Executive Vice President
Jack joined Chaston Associates in 1988 following four years as an examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in Boston. Jack manages a range of client banks located primarily within the Northeast states, with total assets approaching $10 billion. In addition to managing commercial loan review projects, Jack provides portfolio analysis in the areas of indirect finance, residential mortgage lending & equipment leasing. Jack earned a BS in Finance from the University of Notre Dame.

Allan T. Houston | Senior Vice President
Al joined the firm in July 2005 and is responsible for a number of clients located across New England. Prior to joining our team, Al had twenty five years of lending experience encompassing commercial real estate, C & I, real estate acquisition, development & construction, mortgage banking, and consumer finance. Al functioned at the senior management level for the majority of his career prior to joining Chaston. In addition to commercial loan review, Al's background has allowed him to make important contributions to our clients in the areas of construction/land development and consumer lending. Al has a BA in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and an MBA from Northeastern University.

Donald H. Thomson | Senior Vice President
Donald began in lending in 1983, working in the areas of consumer credit & collections, mortgage origination, commercial credit analysis and relationship management over the course of the first 16 years of his career. After working primarily for community banks within the Merrimack Valley region of Massachusetts, Donald joined Chaston in 1999. Donald has worked with institutions reporting total assets from $200 million to $3 billion and currently manages a number of Massachusetts-based banks for the firm. Donald has a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts.

Kevin V. Boucher | Senior Vice President
Kevin joined the Chaston team in 1997 after twelve years with a New Hampshire community bank. Over the course of his career, Kevin has been involved in all facets of community bank lending, including: consumer, residential, commercial and commercial real estate. As a banker, his responsibilities ranged from origination and underwriting, to relationship management, collections and workout. Since joining Chaston Associates Kevin has worked with numerous and diverse lending institutions located across New England. Presently, Kevin manages several loan review and credit risk assessment projects for our clients. Kevin earned a BS in Business Administration with a second major in Economics from the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School. After attaining an additional degree in Accounting, Kevin passed the Uniform CPA Examination prior to joining the firm.

Diane R. Duff | Office and Systems Manager
Diane joined Chaston Associates in 1992. In addition to managing the day-to-day office functions for the company, she also serves as Chaston's IT Systems Tech/Administrator, and Information Security Officer. Diane provides corporate support and expertise in the areas of network services, technical systems assistance and database management. Prior to joining the firm Diane held various administrative, marketing and technical support positions at both Wang Laboratories in Lowell, MA and The Mitre Corporation in Bedford, MA.   She is a graduate of Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, MA and holds a Bachelor's degree from Salem State College in Salem, MA.

George J. Cooke | Vice President
George joined Chaston Associates in mid-2008 bringing 28 years of experience in the financial services industry. Credit trained at the Bank of Boston after several years of retail experience, George concentrated in lending, credit analysis, loan review, and problem resolution over a period of 10 years. The next 18 years brought considerable opportunities in his areas of concentration, including assignments and general management responsibilities at large, medium, and smaller institutions in New England and along the East Coast. At Chaston, George continues working in the areas of credit and loan review, with an emphasis on SBA relationships, commercial and industrial lending, and real estate exposure.

Joseph Santora, Jr. | Senior Vice President
Joe joined Chaston Associates in August of 2011 after an extensive banking career of over 30 years with a large community bank in Western Massachusetts. While in banking Joe was a member of the Senior Management team and a member of the bank's Credit Committee. His experience spans all facets of commercial lending, from Credit Administration, Credit Department, and Loan Operations. In addition to managing a portfolio of corporate borrowing relationships, Joe was responsible for the strategic direction of the bank's Information Technology. Responsibilities included the development of policies and procedures and the streamlining of operational systems for both Commercial lending and IT. Since joining Chaston, Joe has managed several projects of diverse size in New England. Joe is a graduate of the New England School of Banking at Williams College.

Laurie K. Medrek | Vice President
Laurie began her banking career spending ten years at the former Bank of Boston in their Loan Review Division, managing collections and commercial loan workouts. Her next move was to the Bank of New Hampshire where she managed the credit department and helped initiate an independent loan review function for the holding company. Laurie has been part of the Chaston team since 1996 and has led numerous assignments with varying focus, including: consumer, indirect lending, residential mortgage and commercial credit reviews. Laurie attended Suffolk University and later received her BS in Finance and Economics from New Hampshire College.
